Below, you will find the answers to questions you might put to us.
If you don’t find what you are looking for, please contact the Ski School >> |
If I cancel one or more lessons, will I get a refund?
- Once a series of lessons has been started, the ESF Ski School does not supply any refunds, even in the case of illness or accident; we advise you to take out an insurance policy which will give you a refund in certain cases of cancellation. To be refunded, private lessons must be cancelled 48 hours before they are due to start, and group lessons must be cancelled 24 hours before they start.

Does the price for the lessons include insurance?
- Insurance is not included. We advise you to check out your insurance contracts. The Carte Neige (Snow Card) is an assistance insurance organized by the Fédération Française de Ski, and offered by the Ski Schools, which is valid all the year round and everywhere in the world.
|
Is skiing equipment supplied by the ESF ski schools?
- Equipment hire is not included in the skiing lesson prices. We suggest that you see what is available from the resort’s sports shops. We strongly recommend that you wear a helmet. Children taking lessons at the « flocon » (« snowflake ») level at the Piou Piou club do not need ski sticks. |
What clothing do you recommend for skiing or snowboarding?
- We recommend that you use the usual skiing equipment and clothing. Make sure that you are wearing enough to keep warm (tights, thin polo-neck jersey, fleece jacket or sweatshirt…). Don’t forget your gloves, a mask if it’s snowing, and sunglasses. You should have a head band or a woolly hat (in the mountains the weather can change very quickly). |
Is the pass for the ski-lifts supplied by the ESF Ski School?
- The passes for the ski-lifts are not included in the price of the lessons. You will need a beginner’s ski-pass for beginner’s lessons. Children do not need a pass for the first “flocon” Piou Piou Club lesson, and after that they should ask their instructor. Children under five years of age can get a ski pass free of charge; a document proving their age must be shown. |
If it is raining or snowing, do the lessons continue as usual?
- YES, your instructor will be expecting you, whatever the weather. You must be well equipped for the mountain weather conditions in winter, so you need a mask to see well. |
I would like to have an invoice; what should I do?
- If you require an invoice, you should request one when you book or when you pay. |
What is the Piou-Piou Club?
- The Piou Piou Club is only open to children aged 3 ½ to 6 years inclusive whose skiing level is from Beginners to the lessons for the First Star. The children get 2 hours’ skiing lessons. |
How are private lessons organized?
- For private lessons, the price is the same for one or two people. The instructor can only teach one kind of skiing at a time, either downhill skiing or snowboarding, but not both at the same time. |
| Can I share my private lesson with one of my children?
- For downhill skiing, the teaching methods used for children are not the same as those for adults. So this is not recommended. But for snowboarding there is not this constraint, so you can share your lesson. You should also avoid booking several children at different levels into the same lesson, because the instructor will have to adapt the lesson to the child with the lowest level, and so it will be of little help to those who are more advanced. Similarly, you should avoid booking several children aged under 5 years for the same lesson.
|
The learning curve. It is difficult for us to answer the following question: How many hours of lessons will I need to learn to ski?
- That depends on how quickly you learn, on how motivated you are and how fit you are. |
When do the Tests for the different levels take place?
- Children having group lessons take their test during the week, they are signed for it automatically; the morning’s results are posted up at the ESF ski school from 2 pm, and the afternoon’s results are posted up from 5.30 pm. . |
Is there snow at that time of year?
- Yes, there is always enough snow, because if there is not enough naturally, the resort is equipped with a large number of snow cannons. |
How many pupils are there in each skiing lesson group?
- During the French school holidays there are about 10 pupils per group. Outside the French school holiday period, there are often fewer. If you wish for you or your children to be in smaller groups, the option for « lessons in pre-established groups » has been made available. |
Is it necessary to book in advance?
- It is wise to do so, particularly during the February French school holiday period. |
How can I be sure that my children who are the same level will be in the same group?
-
We cannot tell you anything when you make your booking. You need to tell the instructor when they start on their first lesson; but they will not necessarily learn at the same speed.
|
How can I make the choice between group lessons and private lessons?
- It is primarily a financial question. Also, some people feel more motivated in a group ("I don’t want to do less well than the others") and others feel more confident with a private instructor (" I had a skiing accident and since then I’ve been very nervous about skiing"). It’s your choice. |
