You like the countryside, peace and quiet, getting away from it all, the snowy wastes; why not come and explore the mountains in a different way. You don’t need any lessons to go out on snowshoes. You are free to cross large areas of fresh snow in peace while admiring the beautiful mountain scenery. Our guides can offer you the map of some magnificent excursions in the Mercantour Park. Modern snowshoes, which are easy to use and light in weight, can be used for excursions by everybody.

Footwear:
You should wear hiking boots, climbing boots or fur-lined boots (Canadian boots): which are warm and waterproof. The traditional après-ski snow boots should be avoided, or only used for a very short outing, because they do not grip the foot well and often do not give adequate protection against cold and damp.
Besides your boots, we recommend: Gaiters, which protect you from the snow and keep your lower legs and feet from getting soaked. Some ski pants are equipped with gaiters. Or "stop tous", which are short gaiters which keep the snow from getting into the tops of your boots.

Sticks:
It is useful to have a pair of sticks, as they improve your stability and help when climbing steep slopes or coming downhill: downhill skiing sticks are quite suitable, preferably slightly larger than the ones used for skiing. Telescopic sticks are ideal, with quite large baskets so as to have a better grip in the snow.

The rucksack:
Whatever the excursion, a rucksack is indispensable; we will quite often need to change clothes, eat or drink...
